Nigel Kenneally

Nigel Kenneally for Milton and Tamarside

There will be a by-election following the resignation of one of the Torridge District Councillors for the ward of Milton and Tamarside. Nigel Kenneally has agreed to be the LibDem candidate.

Born and bred locally, Nigel is well known for his dynamic role on Holsworthy Town Council. Now he is standing for election to represent people in an area that he knows well on Torridge District Council.

He says, “It breaks my heart to see local communities being run down, bank services becoming more and more inaccessible and people being forced to travel miles for standard blood tests. The farming life forms a key part of our area and we should support it as much as we can”

Teresa Tinsley, leader of the Lib Dem group on Torridge District Council, has warmly welcomed Nigel’s wish to become a Councillor:

“Nigel is a straight talker, he understands rural life and the pressures farmers have been under, and he’s a brilliant entrepreneur who gets things done. He will be a powerful advocate for the community on Torridge District Council”

Nigel's Top Priorities For Local Residents

  • To give farmers the respect they deserve and make sure that decisions made reflect the needs of our rural community.
  • To fight to get courses and training delivered in Holsworthy area, ensuring that skills are developed near to our homes so that our young people don't have to travel long distances.
  • To ensure that residents' views and interests are properly represented on controversial planning applications. Making sure that where there is a major development any infrastructure improvement funds are invested locally to benefit the affected communities.
  • To ensure government regeneration funds for local projects are wisely spent and yield full potential in terms of jobs and economic development for our local community.
  • To make sure rural communities don't lose out in local government reorganisation - keep decision-making near to residents.

Nigel and the LibDems Fighting and Campaigning Locally

1. Fighting for our local health services

Nigel knows what it’s like when you can’t get a child’s dentist appointment or a blood test locally. He and the local Lib Dems are campaigning energetically for better access to healthcare, GP and Dentist services.

2. Affordable homes and community benefits

Nigel has successfully campaigned for a BMX pump track to be put on the list of local improvements that local developers must provide. As your District Councillor, Nigel will hold developers to account to provide local infrastructure and amenities along with the new housing they build.

3. Cleaning up our rivers

Nigel is disgusted at the level of sewage dumping which blights our rivers. He welcomes the ongoing improvements to Pyworthy Sewage Works, but says there is much more to do to make our waterways fit again for wildlife again. “South West Water must invest more and stop illegal dumping”, he says.
