‘Save the country, not yourselves’ Labour told
Amid the latest leadership turmoil, Lib Dem Phil Hutty has called on Labour to ‘save the country not yourselves’.
Following the resignation of the Prime Minister and Labour leader yesterday, Liberal Democrat campaigner Phil Hutty has called for a fundamental shift in British politics.
Phil Hutty said:
‘British politics is serious business, yet once again the country is being subjected to chaos and instability at the top of government. In just ten years, the UK has now seen seven Prime Ministers. The constant churn in leadership is becoming a soap opera, when what people need is stable government focused on delivering results.
‘Why has British politics started to resemble a football club that sacks its manager after a poor run of matches? The British people deserve better than endless internal party manoeuvring and power struggles.
‘People in Torridge and Tavistock want politicians focused on the issues that matter to them: the cost of living, access to NHS services, decent jobs and support for local businesses. Communities like ours are crying out for a fairer deal. Changing Prime Ministers based on popularity rather than serious policy makes Labour no better than the Conservatives they replaced.
‘Whoever becomes the next Prime Minister must end the chaos and focus on getting the country back on track.’
The Liberal Democrats say that at the next General Election voters in Torridge and Tavistock will face a clear choice about the future direction of the constituency, and that they will continue campaigning for a fair deal for local people.
